Heavy Metal Guitar Lessons ? Have You Always Wanted to Learn How to Play This Type of Guitar?

Heavy metal has been a popular form of music since the 1980’s. To be honest, not everyone understands or even enjoys this type of music. Yet, groups such as Black Sabbath, Guns & Roses, Van Halen, and AC/DC have made millions in the music industry because of the popularity gained through their large fan bases. Are you the individual who listens to this type of music daily? Have you always wanted to take heavy metal guitar lessons? Well, what is holding you back from achieving this goal?

People who are now looking at retirement age, (65 or older) consider heavy metal to be nothing but loud, unorganized noise. That’s alright because every individual is entitled to his/her own opinion. Not everyone (specifically under the age of 20) enjoys listening to or even understands classical music, either. The great thing about music is that there are many niches and categories within the industry. Each specific niche within the music industry has individuals who derive pleasure listening to the type of music that connects with his/her inner being.

Heavy metal music is a specific niche within the industry that has its own idiosyncrasies in the manner in which the songs are composed. Playing the guitar in this genre follows the same principle. Compare the technique required to master heavy metal guitar with that of the styles that form the basis of country, classical, or jazz guitar. Understand that the technique is quite different.

In order to learn and show improvement on heavy metal guitar you would be foolish to take lessons from an instructor who has a background solely in classical music. With the explosion in size of the Internet over the past 7 years, it is now much easier to find a certified heavy metal guitar teacher who can provide the type of instruction which will allow you to excel at playing the instrument. Back in the year 2000, your options in searching for guitar lessons were limited mainly to what was offered in the Yellow pages of your phone book. Furthermore, unless you lived in a densely populated area, (which had several music studios) or personally knew of a qualified teacher who could both teach and play heavy metal guitar, then you probably were out of luck in pursuing your dream.

Today, there are more choices available thanks to the growth of the Internet. Still, you need to do your research in studying online music programs. There are hundreds of interactive programs that promise to provide you lessons in learning how to play a musical instrument. Remember one important principle during your search, however. You want to take heavy metal guitar lessons. Not every online program has certified teachers able to provide instruction in that style of guitar playing. A reputable program will state exactly what they offer in their lessons. Read the testimonials and reviews of students who have successfully been taught lessons in heavy metal. An online site that offers only folk and jazz guitar as being its primary options with regards to available lessons is not one in which you would want to invest money into its tutorials.

People who love heavy metal music know of the all-time great guitar players, who are masters of this style of playing: Tony Iommi of the group Black Sabbath, Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC and Eddie Van Halen are absolute virtuosos on the guitar when it comes to heavy metal. Classical music string geniuses Ithzak Perlman, (violin) and Yo Yo Ma, (cello) are world renowned for their technical skill and brilliance on their respective instruments. Within the wide spectrum that is the music industry there are fans that idolize the brilliant virtuosos within each particular niche. Heavy metal music is just as important to their fans as compared to those who favor classical music. Basically, more people just need to respect the choices that we are entitled to as human beings.

What is an acoustic guitar? Acoustic guitar is a musical instrument made up of strong wood and is classified as a string instrument. Like an electric guitar, the acoustic guitar also has strings attached from the body that goes through the neck up to the guitar head, it’s only difference is that instead of using pickups it has a hole in the middle of it’s body that absorb the vibration of strings which produces sounds. The acoustic guitar’s neck is divided into parts, which are known as fret boards and each board’s purpose is to define different notes.

Taking Acoustic guitar lessons is no small feat. You need to learn the basic chords in order to play a decent song. You must learn the chord patterns, finger positions, strumming patterns and of course the right note and right keys to use when playing. At first it may sound too complicated but if you’re really into it, and you’ve put you’re heart on it, you’ll learn in no time and find yourself playing songs you never thought you could play.

Let’s start with Guitar Chords. Chords make up a combination of notes being strummed or plucked on the string to produce a one solid note. For example, the C chord, is made up of three different notes composed of C, E, and G note. Chord constructions and learning to how to create a chord are for advance guitar players who are already learning music theories, so for beginners, learning the basic pattern for each chord is enough.

Next is the chord progression. These are a series of chords played to create one smooth progression, your chords played shouldn’t just be on random, it should be played according to the right key. For beginners you can find a lot of sites that gives copy of songs and their chords to play, so beginners doesn’t need to worry about the right key because the progressions and the right chords are already given, you just have to listen for the timing and then play.

Lastly you need to learn the strumming pattern. There is no exact way on teaching strumming, most of the time when you play a song you knew by heart, the rhythm would occur to you naturally, so basic strumming is better learned hands on.

Acoustic guitar playing

Acoustic guitar implies box guitar. Which means a natural sound that is not amplified using electrical means. Actually I prefer acoustic guitar than that of electric guitar. It has been a passion for me to play guitar since childhood. And I remember the time I wished I could touch the guitar in the church but no one would let me. Though I play both guitars now, the box guitar is my favorite.

When we talk about playing the acoustic guitar we may think of simple songs maybe country songs. Because most country songs are accompanied with box guitar. So let us see how we can play the C chords in a country style. The group of chords in the C major are C, Am, Dm, G. The G chord can be either G major or G seventh. So we go through the chords in the sequence as it is written.

So hold the C chord and start playing in such a way that with each second keep beating the G key which is the E key hold down at fret 3 and the C key which is the A key hold down at fret 3. Keep on playing the two keys repeatedly with each second you count. Then in the middle of the two G key and C key play the remaining strings. This is a typical country guitar playing style. Then keep on doing the same with other keys and take the time to Master these chords. So these are only chords that accompany a song. If you know any simple country song, try to sing along with this acoustic guitar playing style.

I have been playing the guitar for the past 15 yrs. It is the best music instrument I adore. Check my blog.

Guitar for Beginners

It has been quite some time since picking up a guitar that I truly was back at the start learning the guitar for beginners all over again. It was an amazing feeling as I had been looking forward to the day I would once again start belting out my favourite songs! I used to play everyday until my fingers bled just trying to nail a song so I didn’t look the fool when I got up as the lead guitarist for my band. We were “Skunk Mutha’s Pastry” a name coined from nothing in particular but very much in fitting with our image…we didn’t have one! But we were determined to be the schools best punk band!

We would jam in the school’s music room and constantly have kids coming back asking if we had the stereo on which to me was a massive compliment and only fueled the fire within me. I was alive when I was playing songs for people and just nailing the riffs and the chorus! I was unstoppable and could not get enough of the attention! Especially from the girls! In my own little world I was already a rockstar and from that I burnt out. Rather quickly I must add. I thought I had learnt the guitar well enough that I would trade it in on an electric piano! What a massive mistake that was! I truly should have stuck with doing what I had grown to love however decided the challenge of something new broke through and I just had to follow that new dream.

The good news is I am playing the guitar again and albeit guitar for beginners I am very much getting back the same passion I once had standing in front of all those people! I have even started a blog on how I am learning to get myself back to the former glory of Skunk Mutha’s Pastry. Suggestions For Playing Electric Acoustic Guitar

Article by Eightminute

With the experienced player, an acoustic guitar is an
indispensable songwriting tool, practice partner, as well as the most
portable means to take your music with you. Here’s a series ideas
for playing an acoustic electric guitar designed to assist you get
the most out of this versatile instrument.

Whether or not you’re a songwriter, guitar teacher, coffee shop
musician, studio musician or an individual who just plays purely for
pleasure the sound of an acoustic guitar can enhance your project
and inspire your creativity.

Sometimes, simply because of the volume of the other instruments within the
band, the size of the venue or particular recording project we’re
working on, it’s essential to amplify the acoustic guitar… it
occurs to all of us so we have to be prepared!

Tips for playing acoustic electric guitar: tip 1

If you are purchasing an acoustic electric guitar there’s an
incredible range to choose from, the 1st thing to keep in mind
is that no matter pick-up, microphone, effects unit, amplifier or
P.A you run your guitar via they can only amplify the
original sound.

That’s the key, you ought to get the very best acoustic guitar for your
specific application. The guitar ought to sound fantastic with out the
pick up and amplification, no quantity of electrical effects can
save a poor sounding acoustic instrument.

I repeat, if you are contemplating purchasing an acoustic electric
guitar make specific that the guitar sounds fantastic just before you plug
it in.

Ideas for playing acoustic electric guitar: tip 2

What sort of acoustic guitar do you will need? Do you need a six
string, steel strung guitar? Would a nylon string acoustic guitar
be a lot more suitable? If you are a solo artist maybe a 12 string
acoustic guitar would be very best.

Which guitar is best? The answer will depend entirely on your
application. To assist you get started here is really a couple of general
observations.

(a) The bulk acoustic rhythm guitar that we hear on the radio is
played on a six string, steel strung guitar played with a pick.

(b) Nylon guitars are becoming a lot more well-known in pop music due to
their capability to produce harmonic content in a frequency range
that will not affect the lead vocal. In this situation the nylon
strung guitar is normally played with a pick, as opposed to being
played with the fingers as it would be played in classical music.

(c) The 12-string guitar works most effectively by itself or with
little accompaniment for it takes up a lot of the frequency and
musical range.

Ideas for playing acoustic electric guitar: tip three

What size acoustic guitar will you need? Do you need a Jumbo,
Dreadnought, 7/8 or folk size?

Keeping in mind we want to get the best acoustic sound from the
guitar. Essentially the top of a guitar is similar to the sound
board of a piano, you ought to steer clear of guitars with volume/tone
controls etc, mounted on the guitar top. Ideally, we want the
guitar top to vibrate freely, even the wrong type of bridge pins
can substantially effect the tone and projection of your guitar.

A guitar that has brass bridge pins will have far much less volume
than a guitar with rosewood bridge pins. Make specific you’ve a
close look at all these details. It’s just prevalent sense, but a
lot of fantastic instruments are over-looked and all they require is really a
slight adjustment.

In this scenario the added weight of the brass bridge pins would
restrict the vibrations of the guitar top, reducing the volume
and projection of the instrument. Simply by replacing the brass
bridge pins with wood bridge pins would give the guitar a
completely different and improved sound.

In theory a Jumbo size acoustic guitar need to give us the very best
acoustic sound. In some cases this in not practical because of
the sheer size of the instrument along with the size of the person
playing the guitar.

The most popular size is the dreadnaught size acoustic guitar.
Nevertheless, some players locate the sound of the dreadnaught guitar
too “boxy” and prefer the 7/8 of folk size guitars.

Lead guitarists tend to favor smaller body guitars due to the fact they
tend to have a more balanced sound to them and are easier to cut
through the band when playing with other musicians.

Ideas for playing acoustic electric guitar: tip 4

Do you need a cut-a-way acoustic? This is an important question,
the majority of acoustic electric guitars accessible in most music
stores are cut-a-ways. Working on our “best acoustic guitar
sound” theory it makes sense that the standard acoustic (non cut-
a-way) guitar will have a fuller, richer sound as the guitar top
is left intact.

If you’re playing acoustic rhythm and do not need to play lead
parts up on the 15th,17th frets you do not will need a cut-a-way.

Ideas for playing acoustic electric guitar: tip 5

Public enemy number 1 of the acoustic guitar is feedback.

So you go out to the average music gig and hold your gorgeous
acoustic guitar up to the average little dynamic microphone. All
is going well until, they turn on the amplification and… there
it is feedback!

How do we overcome this howling, annoying sound? A easy way to
overcome the feedback problem would be to:

(a) use a “feedback buster” this is little rubber plug that fits
within the sound hole of your acoustic guitar, essentially it reduces
the feedback difficulty be making the top of the guitar similar to
that of a solid body acoustic guitar, whilst it significantly reduces
the acoustic qualities of the guitar, the feedback buster might be
quickly removed with out having to loosen the strings.

(b) try and move away from the amplifier/ speakers and certainly
don’t face your acoustic guitar into the speakers.

We’ve now covered a few of the basic suggestions for playing acoustic
electric guitar, take your time a get the best acoustic guitar
without the electronic’s along with the rest is going to be a piece of cake.
